As part of the WPF Construction with Textile Concrete, students designed and built two competition-class concrete canoes to take part in the 19th Concrete Canoe Regatta in Brandenburg an der Havel.

As part of the WPF Construction with Textile Concrete, B1 and B2 students have been designing and building two competition-class concrete canoes since the winter semester 2023/2024 to take part in the 19th Concrete Canoe Regatta in Brandenburg an der Havel. The chairs of Materials in Civil Engineering and Statics and Dynamics supervised the tuKanu and turbo turtles groups during the module and accompanied and cheered them on at the regatta.

The regatta took place from 13-14.6.2024 and started on Friday morning with a jury inspection, presentation and weighing of the boats. During the day, students and staff were able to view the 60 or so other canoes from seven nations and exchange ideas with students from other universities on production, concrete formulas, etc.

The competition started on Saturday morning with the launching of the canoes. At around 11:30 a.m., the preliminary heats ended, in which the students took part five times (2x men, 2x women, 1x mixed). The men's and women's teams of the turbo turtles qualified for the intermediate heats.

The students were able to test their canoes in the water and analyze the quality of the other boats and canoeists during the races. During the races, some suggestions for improvement were collected for participation in the 20th Betonkanuregatta 2026.
