Student competition "Project 1 - Design of the Luisenburg Nature Park Center - Building with regional building materials" decided!

As part of Project 1 in the summer semester 2025, designs were developed for a nature park center in the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park. As a visitor center, the building is intended to house exhibitions on the flora and fauna of the nature park as well as serve as an entrance building to the Luisenburg rock labyrinth. The focus of the design was on the development of strong architectural spatial ideas and their implementation in a resource-saving, durable construction method using regional, natural building materials.

At the jury meeting on 28.11.2025 in Wunsiedel, five works from the 28 semester projects were awarded prizes. In addition to J.-Prof. Anne Hangebruch and Prof. Christian Hartz, representatives of local and state politics were involved, including Bavarian Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber, District Administrator Peter Berek and Mayor Nicolas Lahovnik. Hermann Graser, President of the DNV, and Ronald Ledermüller, Deputy Managing Director of the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park, completed the jury.

The winner was the team of Victoria Scherkamp and Fabian Haase (architecture) and Maximilian Krauße and Felix Hampel (structural engineering), with their proposal to place a tower constructed from wood and stone in the rock labyrinth, thus providing a special view of the Fichtelgebirge. With an external development, the forest can be experienced on all levels and the exhibition becomes part of the outdoor space.

We would like to congratulate all the teams on their innovative ideas and concepts, which will provide an important impetus for the construction of the new nature park center at the Luisenburg rock labyrinth!
