"What comes, what stays, what goes?". Jessen & Vollenweider on attitude, diversity and new paths.

On April 8, 2025, Prof. Anna Jessen and Prof. Ingemar Vollenweider hosted the BLEIBEN lecture entitled "What comes, what stays, what goes?".

In front of numerous students, colleagues and guests, the two gave a very personal insight into their careers, their attitude towards architecture and their diverse working methods.

The path to architecture was not predetermined for either of them - and that is precisely what made the introduction to the evening so special. Ingemar Vollenweider described how he started his studies from an environment with no connection to architecture. The initial spark came in the form of a gift of an architecture magazine that fascinated him as a teenager. Anna Jessen also talked about growing up creatively. Even as a teenager, she sewed her own clothes and discovered her flair for craftsmanship early on.

The lecture focused on a series of selected projects that illustrated not only their architectural development, but also their attitude.

Both emphasized that they deliberately do not pursue a fixed "signature style", but are always trying out new things. Their projects move between the poles of traditional building methods and sustainable solutions.

What remains is the attitude: architecture as an open system, as a process, as an invitation to dialog.

The lecture ended in a lively round of discussions - and with the feeling that STAYING can also mean constantly repositioning oneself.
