Civil Engineering (M.Sc.)
The consecutive Master's degree program B2 Civil Engineering provides in-depth technical and scientific knowledge and methods for the design and calculation of structures as well as scientific specialization in selected areas, leading to further scientific qualifications in teaching and research (doctorate) and an outstanding professional qualification for structural design and construction. The in-depth practice of the dimensioning and structural design of load-bearing structures, their material-specific analysis and computer-aided modeling within the interdisciplinary Dortmund Model enables students to independently and reflectively apply the knowledge they have acquired and to work independently and methodically, which they demonstrate in their final thesis.
Possible specializations
At the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at TU Dortmund University, architects and civil engineers are trained together in the Dortmund Model. This model is unique in Germany and embodies a teaching concept that aims to teach interdisciplinary teamwork with the other engineers involved in the construction process in addition to thorough subject-specific training in their own discipline. The projects that are worked on jointly by architecture and civil engineering students in teams play a key role in learning this cooperation. Realistic planning tasks are used to create the basis for later successful collaboration in practice.
By successfully completing the Master's degree program, graduates have proven that they are qualified for subsequent scientific work in the field of research and development and for independent technical implementation in structural design, e.g. as project managers in engineering offices, as independent freelance structural designers, as experts, for management tasks in the construction industry, for managerial positions in project development companies and in the higher public service.

| Admission requirements | The admission requirement(see also corresponding examination regulations) for the Master's degree course in Civil Engineering is a six-semester Bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Science) in Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund. For applicants with a different degree, the application documents to be submitted will be used to check whether the existing degree is equivalent to the required degree or whether there is particular potential for successful completion of the Master's degree program. As a rule, equivalence is given if the course and examination achievements essentially correspond to those of the Bachelor's degree course in Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund in terms of content, scope and requirements. This is not a schematic comparison but an overall consideration and assessment. The determination is made by the examination board. |

| Enrollment for students from other universities | Online enrolment/application can be made from approx. mid-January (start of studies for the summer semester) or from approx. mid-June (start of studies for the winter semester) at the Registrar's Office at www.tu-dortmund.de/einschreibung. As it can take up to six weeks to check the application documents including the administrative process, the application should be received at least six weeks before the start of the semester - at the beginning of September at the latest for the winter semester and at the beginning of March at the latest for the summer semester Enrolment can only take place after the start of lectures in exceptional cases. |
| Enrollment for international students | International students can apply to the International Office www.aaa.tu-dortmund.de from March 15 to July 15 (for the winter semester) or from November 15 to January 15 (for the summer semester). In addition to online enrollment (with the documents to be submitted for this purpose), application documents (transcript of records, short letter of motivation, CV, references if applicable, etc.) must be sent to the Registrar's Office in paper form or uploaded digitally to the International Office. |
