Location & approach

By car

The campus of the Technical University of Dortmund is located near the Dortmund West highway junction, where the A45 Sauerland line crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to Campus South, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 to Campus North. The university is signposted at both exits.

Public transport

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S-Bahn line S1 runs every 20 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Rhine-Ruhr transport association, and DSW21 also offers an interactive route network map.

The H-Bahn

The H-Bahn is one of the landmarks of TU Dortmund University. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 runs every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this route in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, you can take the AirportExpress to Dortmund Central Station in just over 20 minutes and from there take the S-Bahn to the university. Düsseldorf Airport, around 60 kilometers away, offers a wider range of international flight connections and can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

The Faculty mourns the loss of Professor Dr.-Ing. Atilla Ötes (* 30.01.1953 † 21.10.2023)

Prof. Atilla Ötes joined the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at TU Dortmund University in 1997 as Professor of Structural Design. After completing his doctorate in Darmstadt, the Istanbul-born scientist worked as a structural engineer in Frankfurt am Main and on numerous projects abroad before accepting a position at what was then the University of Dortmund. He was involved as Dean of Studies in his faculty and played a decisive role in shaping the Dortmund model of cooperative education in architecture and civil engineering, which is still practiced today, for more than 20 years. Until his retirement in 2018, his research was primarily dedicated to the earthquake-resistant construction of masonry buildings.

TU Dortmund University has lost a dedicated and highly esteemed colleague in Professor Atilla Ötes. We will honor his memory. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
