Presentation of the Publication "Berlin City Models"

At the invitation of the Jessen-Volweider Chair of Urban Design at TU Dortmund University, the publication *Berliner Stadtmodelle* was presented in Berlin on June 3, 2026. More than 100 guests discussed the significance of historic residential complexes for current issues in housing construction and urban development.

On June 3, 2026, the publication *Berliner Stadtmodelle* was presented at the headquarters of the Senate Department for Urban Development, Construction, and Housing in Berlin. More than 100 guests accepted the invitation and attended with great interest.

Following opening remarks by Senate Director of Construction Prof. Petra Kahlfeldt, Prof. Ingemar Vollenweider and Moritz Henkel provided insights into the book’s development and key content. The publication examines 15 influential Berlin residential complexes from the late 19th century through the 1980s and highlights the potential of their urban design qualities for current planning and housing construction issues.

A special highlight of the evening was the subsequent panel discussion featuring Prof. Dr. Claudia Kromrei, Prof. Peter Eingartner, Prof. Dr. Eva Maria Froschauer, and Prof. Dr. Silvia Malcovati. Starting from the challenges of contemporary housing construction, a stimulating exchange developed regarding current production conditions and the achievements of Berlin’s housing history.

During the reception that followed, numerous guests took the opportunity to engage in personal conversation and delve deeper into the topics discussed. The lively discussions made it clear just how relevant the examination of Berlin’s urban models is for current urban development.
